In the last three years the middle school Lady Pirates softball team is 45-0, a feat no other Pike County sports team has even come close to. They won this year’s Central Georgia Championship by going 12-0 in regular season and then ran the table on Byron 17-0, Crawford County 9-6 and Gray Station in the championship game 3-2.Last Thursday the Lady Pirates hosted Gray Station for the championship. Both teams were 12-0 coming into the game. Sowers struck out five batters, while giving up seven hits and one walk. On offense the Lady Pirates had nine hits and struck out 11 times en route to the championship.Assistant coach Robin Kempson was impressed with the Lady Pirates achievement for the last three years as well.’Those girls played hard every game and never let up. They’re a special group that’ll do well at the high school level,’ said Kempson.
