Meet your local candidates

Find out about local candidates running for office in the Pike County Journal Reporter’s Meet the Candidates section this week. Several candidates will run uncontested in the July 31 general primary, including Superior Court Clerk Carolyn Williams of Concord, Tax Commissioner Donna Wynn of Meansville, Coroner Terrell Moody, District 3 commissioner Tommy Powers of Meansville and non-partisan incumbent Probate Judge Lynn Brandenburg of Concord. Since qualifying, one candidate, Brian Fancher, has withdrawn from the race for board of education District 3 seat. ’I was concerned because District 3 did not have a candidate and I wanted the seat filled by someone who has a good character like Roger Green,’ Fancher said. ‘When I heard his daughter had qualified, I was excited that we have a good candidate we can support.’ A public forum hosted by the Concerned Citizens of Pike will be held June 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Mount Calvary Outreach Center at 480 Second St. in Concord. Candidates in each race will be asked the same questions and given the same amount of time to answer. Audience members will be allowed to submit questions prior to the forum and some can ask questions during the forum as long as they relate to one subject only and are clearly stated. Candidates will be given time to make closing statements, but not raise new allegations against other candidates. The forum will be moderated by Jason Brisendine of First Bank of Pike.
