Memorial Day program set for May 26 on courthouse lawn

The Pike County American Legion Post 197 will be hosting the 2025 Pike County Memorial Day Observance Program. The public is invited to attend the program on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m. on the south side of the courthouse square in Zebulon.

The program theme for this year is ‘Courage.’ This year’s guest speaker will be the Reverend Ron Griffin who is the pastor of the Concord Methodist Church and a retired Marine Corps Veteran.
“The memorial program in its entirety will be ceremonial, informative, patriotic and inspirational,” said Bryan Richardson of Post 197. “Additionally, as part of the program, a list of all the known veterans from Pike County who have passed away since last Memorial Day will be read and, in their honor, a bell rang.”

A fresh memorial wreath will be presented, followed by a moment of silence and “Taps.” After the program, the memorial wreath will be displayed at the Pike County Veterans Memorial for public viewing.

“Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable chair. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at the American Legion Post 197 at 645 Meansville Street in Zebulon,” said Richardson. “Help us acknowledge our veterans and those military who died defending the freedoms we enjoy today.”
