Middle school field gets green

The Pike County Touchdown Club raised enough money to sod 60 yards of a football field at the middle school. Work started March 24. The sod should be rooted and ready for the middle school football team to practice there this spring. ’We won’t have to bus the kids over to practice anymore. That’ll be nice,’ said head football coach Mike McNutt. ‘The community really came together to make this happen. We’ll try to have spring practice here if everything goes right.’ Touchdown Club member Jeff Kennerly said without the support of parents, faculty, students and the school’s PTO, the project would not have been such a success. ’The Touchdown Club raises money all year,’ he said. ‘Our next goal is to provide new helmets and game pads. They are using game pants that are 13 years old and we need to try to replace those too.’ Kennerly said Pike Atlas will help raise some of those funds. ’Our big fundraiser is the Pike Atlas April 1. It’s a 16-year tradition and everyone has a lot of fun.
