Middle school softball outscores opponents 39-1

The Pike County Middle School team has started the season strong as they’ve outscored their opponents 39-1 in just two games.

In their first game Aug. 22, the Lady Pirates defeated Clifton Ridge 22-1. Layla Dilbeck secured the win in the circle for the Pirates, allowing only two hits in four innings of work. The team’s offense was a force to be reckoned with as they put up 16 hits in 26 at bats against the Cougars.

In the second game of the season, Ella Alpough picked up the win in the circle allowing only two hits over four innings and striking out seven.

The Lady Pirates offense produced 11 hits and were led by Kynlee Pike and Savanna Sowell who each had two extra base hits and multiple RBIs. Bella Geis doubled, scoring a run. Harley Garland and Kaylee Martinez also singled, pushing runs across for the Pirates.

The PCMS softball ladies played Gray Station Tuesday, Aug. 29 in Jones County after the Pike County Journal Reporter’s press deadline.
