Pike County 4-H member Miley Dysart, an eleventh-grade student, achieved a prestigious milestone at the Jr. National Livestock Show in Perry, Georgia. Dysart was awarded the highly esteemed Master 4-H Showmanship award in the swine species showmanship showcase, recognizing her outstanding skill, dedication, and showmanship in the ring.
In addition to this remarkable achievement, she also exhibited high-quality livestock, earning fifth Overall Market Barrow and fifth Overall Market Gilt honors at the event which was held Feb. 19-22.
“Dysart, who has been involved in livestock showing since the fourth grade, has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the agricultural industry and the 4-H program,” said Brandi Baade, FFA advisor and agriculture education teacher.
“Over the years, she has refined her expertise in swine exhibition, showcasing a strong work ethic, leadership, and passion for livestock. Her dedication to the craft has not only brought personal success but has also contributed to the agricultural community’s growth and development.”
Dysart plans to further her agricultural education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where she intends to pursue a degree in agribusiness.
“Her achievements at the Jr. National Livestock Show serve as a testament to her hard work and bright future in the field,” said Baade. “4-H is a youth development program that empowers young people to reach their full potential through hands-on experiences in agriculture, leadership, and citizenship.”
The 4-H program provides opportunities for students to develop valuable life skills while fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork. Through projects such as livestock showing, 4-H members gain knowledge, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the agricultural industry.
