MLK Jr. Day parade is Jan. 15

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15 and it will be followed by A Day of Service on the courthouse square.

“We’re going to do our annual MLK Jr. Day parade and afterward we will have A Day of Service on the square,” said Regina Bridges. “Due to the spike of illnesses, we are not going to have a program this year but we will join with the NAACP and Concerned Citizens for Pike to do a day of service after the parade.”

The grand marshal for the parade will be Rev. Herman Lucas, a seminary student working on his master’s degree who lives in Zebulon and attends Mt. Hope Baptist Church. He has served for four years as president of Concerned Citizens of Pike County.

A Day of Service will include the distribution of coats and hats and gloves and clothes and other items to those who need them.

“We will be taking donations from organizations and distributing those to the public,” said Bridges. “That will take directly after the parade next to the post office.”

Line up for parade starts at 9 a.m. at Fuller’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the parade will circle the courthouse square.
