Molena Fest will kick off Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Molena city park with various vendors, live entertainment through the day, festival foods, games and the first ever Molena Mission Run. There will be hometown fun for the whole family from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Spots for booths are still available for the event at $10 each. Contact Molena city hall at 770-884-9711 to apply for a spot. Downtown businesses will have their doors open during the event. Restrooms will be available for use at the new Molena fire station and city hall. There will not be a parade or pet parade at this year’s Molena Fest. The Molena Mission Run will begin at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Entry fees include a T-shirt for each runner and are $15 for the one mile run and $20 for the 5K. The race will start in the city park, wind through downtown backroads and return to the park for the finish line. Proceeds from the run will make a mission trip to Lima, Peru, possible for members of Mount Olive Baptist Church. ’Every year our church does mission trips and we’ve been going within the United States. On spring break of 2014, several students are planning to go to Lima. All the proceeds from the race will help benefit that,’ said youth pastor Jimmy Wright. ‘It’ll cost around $1,000 per person to go. That includes airfare and a week of expenses. There’s a school in Peru that several adults from our church have helped set up. We’ll be working at the school, helping the children. We’ll pretty much go and do what the Lord leads us to do. Most of our work will be there at the school. Any donations are appreciated and can be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church.’ To register for the race or to make a donation, contact Wright at jimmy@movingoutboldly.com or 706-975-7385.
