New athletic director faces new region

High school sports are facing a new region in 2010; now they have a new athletic director as well in Mark Andrews. Coach John “Mac” McMillan ended his time as athletic director recently to spend more time with his family. ”He asked to step down as athletic director and we allowed it. He has a big family with three young kids and being athletic director and the football coach takes a tremendous amount of time,” said superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan. “He did a really nice job for us. We appreciate what he did. Mark Andrews is a very capable athletic director and well respected around the state in athletics. We’re excited to have him on board.” Andrews has been an educator 29 years, coached basketball 21 years and acted as athletic director 10 years at Stockbridge High School. He grew up and lives in Griffin but is building a home in Concord. Andrews was head coach for Pike basketball. ”Right now my new duties include trying to make sure a budget is set up so we have funds to cover our sports this year, transportation to games, overseeing the general athletic program, making sure coaches have what they need to compete, making sure we’re following Georgia High School Sports Association policies and doing the things we need to run a first class program,” Andrews said.
