Congestion and safety concerns related to the school traffic on Highway 19 have been a concern to the citizens of Pike County and members of the board of commissioners, board of education and Georgia Department of Transportation over the past several years. According to county manager John Hanson, members of the board of commissioners and the board of education are working collaboratively with the Georgia Department of Transportation to provide a solution to safety concerns and congestion on Highway 19.  The county public works crew is constructing a new drive from Old Meansville Road that will serve as the entrance to the high school and is projected to open this fall. It will be paved as well. ’We will share more on the new traffic plan in the weeks to come as the construction of this drive progresses,’ said Hanson. ‘Please continue to be patient as we work together to address school traffic concerns.’
