Operation Homefront offers free home in Molena to veteran

Operation Homefront, a San Antonio-based non-profit provides emergency financial and other services to military families and wounded warriors, and is seeking applications for the Homes on the Homefront program. Operation Homefront provides homes mortgage free for veterans or military families if they meet the criteria. Operation Homefront has a two-story home available in Molena. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and is 1,452 square feet with an open kitchen and fireplace in the living room. The application deadline is Dec. 13 and can be submitted at homesonthehomefront.org. ’JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Meritage partnered with our organization to give away mortgage free homes to our veterans and military families,’ said Cheryl Smith of Operation Homefront. ‘We cater to all veterans no matter what era they served, as long as they served honorably.’ Selected families live in the homes for a period of one to two years, and they are required to pay a monthly rent equal to 1/12th of the annual property taxes, home insurance, warranty, closing costs and home owner association fees. At the end of the one to two year period, provided there are no outstanding issues or delinquencies, the family is deeded the home, free and clear.  ’Essentially, the service member is an ‘˜almost owner’ more than a ‘˜tenant,’ and would own the property by the time they complete the program,’ said Smith.   For more, go to homesonthehomefront.org. ’After years of service to their country, many of our soldiers, service members and their families are in need of assistance. Too many have sacrificed their limbs, their wellbeing, and in too many instances, their lives, to fight for freedom for those not able to fight for themselves,’ said Smith. ‘They have put their lives on the line and their families have had to learn to live without their mom, dad, husband, wife and children, due to a higher calling of service to our great nation.’
