Patriot Day ceremony set for Sept. 11

Citizens are invited to attend a Patriot Day ceremony hosted by American Legion Post 197 at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 on the south side of the courthouse square. The Pike County Patriot Day Observance Program honors the 15th anniversary of those who perished following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Highlights of the program will include the multi-organizational Color Guard’s posting of the Colors (including fire department, sheriff’s office and military members), the National Anthem and special music by members of the Hanson Family, the Last Call Tribute to the FDNY and NYPD by the Pike County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office; a special 9-11 Prayer by Prayer Power of Georgia’s Chaplain Ben Maxedon, and guest speaker, Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas. ’Please join the community as we honor and continue to remember the 2,977 victims who perished and the attack that changed the world,’ said Post 197 commander Bryan Richardson. ‘Seating is limited, so the public is encourage to bring their lawn chairs.’
