Pike County High School will compete in Region 2-AAA in 2026 due to the Georgia High School Association’s recent reclassification. Coaches and athletic directors from Region 2-AAA met at Lamar High School on Dec. 9 and schedules were finalized.
GHSA had A-7A classifications up until two years ago. The last two years were played with A-6A (with A being split into A-D1 and A-D2). It worked better as A-7A so GHSA returned to their original arrangement, moving PCHS back into Region 2-AAA.
Pike County will play in Region 2-AAA along with Jackson, Callaway, Lamar County, Rutland, Northeast Macon, Southwest Macon and Central Macon with a total of eight teams in the region.
“The GHSA’s decision to reintroduce Class 7A is part of a broader effort to address concerns about competitive balance within the state’s high school sports,” said the GHSA website. “The new system aims to ensure that the top 32 teams have a chance to compete for the playoffs, with the region champion guaranteed a 1-16 seed.”
