PCHS track headed to state meet

The Pike County High School track team competed in Columbus in the A Sectionals of AAA over the weekend. The top eight out of sectionals qualified for the State Meet in Albany this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. 

“We had a lot of personal bests and school records set. We had seven boys qualify, some in multiple events, and a few girls,” said coach Clay Woerner. “We also had a few finish ninth and they will be alternates. Alternates can still get in up to noon on Tuesday. You can follow the GHSA 3AAA State Championships 2023 online at milesplit.com with live results.”  

On Thursday, May 11, Gage Lee will compete in the high jump at 10 a.m. Jada Colbert will compete in the high Jump at noon. The “Air Force” will compete in Pole Vault with team members Gage Lee, Luke Woerner and Calvin Hoops at 2 p.m. Adrianna Scavette will compete in Pole Vault at 4 p.m.

The 4 by 800 team set a new school record over the weekend of 8:30.95. Xander Potter, Andrew Edwards, John Barber and Luke Woerner teamed up to finish first in Sectional A and broke the school record by four seconds. They will compete in the finals Thursday at 6:40 p.m.

On Friday, May 12, Xander Potter will compete in the 1600 meter final at 1:20 p.m. Jada Colbert will compete in the 300 hurdles with preliminary qualifying at 3 p.m. Lane Woodward will compete in 300 hurdles with preliminary qualifying also at 3 p.m.

On Saturday, May 13, Lane and Jada will compete in 300 Hurdles at 2:50 p.m. if they qualify. Xander Potter and Luke Woerner will compete in the 3200 finals at 4 p.m.

The 4 by 400 team of Woodward, Lee, Hoops and Edwards also set a new school record at 3:34.48 and will serve a alternates. They beat the school record by two seconds. Sadie Bray is an alternate in the 100 Hurdles. Callie Williams hit a new PR of 99’10” in the discus and finished ninth and will serve as an alternate. The girls 4 by 800 team hit a season PR and finished tenth with Morgan Boynton, Emma Summerlin, Callie Williams and Bailey Morris.
