PCMS Lady Pirates head to championship

The middle school Lady Pirates played for a spot in the middle school championship Friday, Feb. 5, against the Lamar County Lady Trojans. The Lady Pirates led the entire game, winning 46-39 and will play the championship game at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in Forsyth at Hubbard Middle School. The Lady Pirates dominated the first period, allowing the Trojans to score only once in the last seconds to make the score 17-2. The Lady Pirates widened the gap in the second period with several three pointers. The score was 31-12 at the half. The middle school gym was packed with fans and family members who cheered the team throughout the game. Kristen Beckham led the Lady Pirates with 19 points and six steals. Lauren Duncan scored 15 points, including two three pointers. Leila Chambers scored four points, going two for two from the free throw line. Asia Harris scored four points and made two steals. Latoya King and Aaliya Williams scored two points each. ”This is one of the better middle school basketball teams I’ve ever seen,” said athletic director Jimmy Sessions.
