Pig Pickin’ set for Saturday

The seventh annual Pig Pickin’,Toe Tappin’, RC Cola and Moon Pie Event to benefit the historic Whiskey Bonding Barn in Molena will be held Saturday, May 26 from 5:30 p.m. to dark. Besides the traditional feast served up by Bert Willis, there will be traditional long-necked RC colas and Moon Pies for dessert. Everyone is asked to bring a chair to join the sunset gathering of Whiskey Bonding Barn supporters on the hill overlooking the Pine Mountain ridge. Music makers Les Bragg and the Wranglers will provide the music. A special treat this year will be a wine tasting and sale by The Warm Springs Winery, which will be set up in the Whiskey Bonding Barn during the event. Winemaker Ed Rocereta will bring some of his favorites, named in honor of Franklin Roosevelt’s connection with Warm Springs, including White House White, an off dry and crisp white, Unfinished Portrait, an off dry blush, Lotus Pond White, a modest sweet white, and Old Atlanta Red. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 8. Tickets can be purchased by calling Elsie Anderson at 770-884-5375 or at A Novel Experience in Zebulon. All ticket holders are asked to think up names for the Barn’s mascot, a big black pig sculpture –he (or she) only comes out for special occasions such as this. The best name will be chosen at the Pig Pickin’ at 6:30 p.m. The Whiskey Bonding Barn is at 9263 Old Zebulon Road in Molena. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and may be the only surviving building of its kind in the U.S. Pike Historic Preservation is a local nonprofit group dedicated to saving and finding new uses for historic buildings.
