Pike County Backpack Program needs food, donations

The Pike County Backpack Program is a collaborative effort of local churches, individuals and organizations to provide students in need with meals for the weekend. Hundreds of students who are recommended by school counselors are provided with meals each week and food and monetary donations are needed to start the school year off right for the students.

“We need food donations of pop tarts, ravioli, individual mac and cheese meals and granola bars,” said program director Susan Trawick.

The program will start in August and provide students with meals each school week until the end of the school year.

The Pike County Backpack Program is not affiliated with the Just Because United Ministries program that provides students in need with backpacks and supplies to start the school year.

“There is a bin behind the church that is in the covered drive thru for food donations,” said Trawick. “Donations are the sole support of the Backpack Program. We are grateful to the individuals, church groups, civic organizations and businesses who have supported this ministry. Donations can be made online at zfbc.live by clicking on the “giving” button. Checks may also be made to First Baptist Zebulon at P.O. Box 312 Zebulon, Georgia 30295 or taken to the church.”
