On the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack, Pike County students learned about the events of that terrible day and the community members who stepped up to help as the Twin Towers crumbled around them. Pike County Head Start held a special program to thank community helpers for what they do locally. The 3- and 4-year-old students welcomed everyone to the program, held a moment of silence, sang songs including The National Anthem and shook hands with local law enforcement officers, firefighters and paramedics. The program ended with the Siren Sound Off to remember the events of 9/11. A firetruck, sheriff’s office patrol car and ambulance all took part in the siren sound off as the American flag was held aloft on the firetruck’s extended ladder.
