Pike man killed in motorcycle crash

A 22-year old Pike man was killed around 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 in a motorcycle crash on Hale Avenue in Griffin. William Nathan Perkins of Hemphill Road was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a power pole. According to officer Gordy Wright, Perkins was operating a 2007 Suzuki eastbound on Hale and entered a curve too fast for conditions. The motorcycle struck a curb with its front tire and then hit a utility pole. Perkins was ejected and also hit the utility pole. He was wearing a helmet. Alcohol was not suspected as a contributing factor. Perkins was a 2008 graduate of Pike County High School. He played football for the PCHS Pirates. He also enjoyed playing softball. Funeral services for Perkins will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church with interment in Moody Memorial Gardens. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the William Nathan Perkins Memorial Fund at First Bank of Pike.
