Pike resident reconnects with French phenom

A Pike resident reconnected with a French super star recently while attending a concert in Montreal where she and a friend were invited backstage.

Carol Austin first started listening to the music of Mireille Mathieu when she and a friend were learning French. The singer has recorded more than 1,200 songs in 11 languages with more than 122 million records sold worldwide.

Williamson resident Carol first met Mireille when she was in college and learning French. She wrote to the star’s manager and told him that she and her friend would be in Montreal, Canada for her show and that she helped them learn French.

“Mr. Johnny Stark-Impresario very kindly invited me and my mother to Carnegie Hall to see her and I helped her with her speech so she could pronounce the words correctly in English for her show at Carnegie Hall. So she helped me and I helped her with pronunciation,” said Carol in an interview that was included in the DVD celebrating Mireille’s 40 years in show business.

The DVD achieved gold status in Europe. Since the DVD was released, many of Mireille’s fans have recognized Carol at the super star’s concerts. She already has tickets to see the French phenom in Paris in October 2025.

“I am heading back to Pike after a thrilling weekend attending concerts and being able to see my singer friend,” said Carol. “The concerts were completely sold out with fans from all over the world who came to see her. My best friend and I were there and part of a very small group who were able to meet her backstage. I am still pinching myself that it was real!”
