Pike tested in a four game week

The Pirates won three out of four games last week, starting with a 12-11 victory over Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Pike scored five early runs. Eagles Landing came back with six to take the lead. Both teams battled for lead changes. With the score tied at 11 and Pike coming to bat in the bottom of the seventh,one run was enough to the seize the victory. With two outs and a base runner at third, Caleb Lynch hit a grounder to the shortstop. He threw onto first but the throw short-hopped and the first baseman could not handle it. Pike pulled off a 12-11 win. Kody Adams started on the mound, giving up seven runs. He was relieved by Justin Guy in the third who was credited with the win. He gave up five runs. The next day the Pirates hosted Lamar County. The Trojans scored one run in the first and six in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Pirate bats came alive in the last five innings to outscore the Trojans 13-1 for a 13-8 victory. Adams highlighted the offensive attack with a home run to center field in the fifth. Zack Anderson started on the hill for the Pirates and gave up seven runs. He was relieved by Daniel Fiorvanti who gave up one run and four hits during his five innings of pitching. Friday the Pirates traveled to Columbus to take on the Jordan Red Jackets. They cruised to a 12-4 victory be-hind the pitching of Blake Edwards. Edwards pitched four innings, giving up three hits and two unearned runs. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk. Avery Bragg came on in relief in the fifth and gave up three hits and two runs while striking out one. Nick Starks led offense at four for four with a triple, double and two singles. Lance Shelton had a triple and one single. Blake Jones had two singles. Bragg and Chad Kirk-sey had doubles. Lynch and Seth Floyd singled. Saturday the Pirates hosted Newnan in a non-region match-up between a AA and AAAAA powerhouse. Colby Ralston took the mound and gave up seven runs on nine hits during five innings. He struck out four and issued a walk. Ander-son, on in relief in the sixth, struck out three and gave up a hit but no runs. Pirate offense was a little flat with five hits. Guy led the Pirates as he homered and doubled. His brother Jared had a double. Lynch and Shelton each singled. Newnan won 7-3, the first Georgia team to hand Pike a defeat this season. The Pi-rates are 14-2 overall and 8-0 in region 5-AA. This week the Pirates go to Upson-Lee, Crawford and Heard counties and play Manchester at home Thurs-day. The Heard game will be Friday in Franklin at 5:30 p.m. The game will determine first place.
