Pike under tornado watch

A tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service for Pike County to last until midnight tonight. The tornado watch includes 31 central Georgia counties. Tornado watches are issued when conditions are right for a tornado to form. Since any thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is defined as severe, a tornado watch is also automatically considered a severe thunderstorm watch, meaning the potential exists for large hail and damaging winds.
