Pike’s Ken Pullin takes office

The 2019 Legislative session kicked off Jan. 14 for the state of Georgia and local resident Ken Pullin was sworn in as State Representative for District 131 which includes Pike, Upson and Lamar counties. As one of the first orders of business, Representative David Ralston was re-elected as Speaker of the House. Governor Brian Kemp was sworn in as the 82nd governor of Georgia at McCamish Pavilion. Governor Kemp delivered The State of the State address on Thursday, Jan. 17 during a joint session of the House and Senate Chambers. Governor Kemp’s goals for the session included a $3,000 raise for teachers, additional money for school safety, support for law enforcement and growing job opportunities for Georgians. Committee assignments were adopted as well during the first week of session. Representative Ken Pullin will serve on the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Human Relations and Aging and Small Business Development Committees. On Friday, Jan. 18, Representative Pullin welcomed the Youth Leadership Upson Team for a Capitol tour and pictures with Governor Brian Kemp. The governor’s proposal budget was presented to the Joint Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 23 and the legislative days were to resume on Jan. 28. ’Thank you to the people of District 131 for your continued encouragement and support,’ said Rep. Ken Pullin. ‘I look forward to serving you!’
