Pike County middle and high school students took part in a 12-hour band camp last week but that was just the beginning of their hard work. The PCHS Pirate Regiment Band was the only band from Georgia selected to play in New York City’s annual Veterans Day Parade in November and they must raise the funds for the trip. The total cost of the trip would be $35,000 if the members do not have to pay their own way. However, based on donationsso far, the Pirate Band Booster Club plans to try to raise $10,000 to cover transportation costs, with each student paying $550. Payments must be made no later than Oct. 20.Upcoming fundraisers include a Rock-A-Thon Friday, Aug. 5 at Life Springs Church at the corner ofhighways 19 and 109 in Meansville, American Pie Pizza Night Thursday, Aug. 4 with 20% of all proceeds going to the band, a Golf Tournament at Cedars Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 17 and various items for sale throughout the year. Donations can be made at any United Bank to the PCHS Band Booster New York Savings Account or checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 901, Zebulon, 30295.
