Pirate Run set for March 5

Prepare to walk the plank or run in the Peg Leg 5K during the Pike County Elementary School’s eighth annual fund’˜run’raiser set for Saturday, March 5. The money raised will benefit students directly by purchasing items for their classrooms. The one-mile Plank Walk/Run will be held at 4 p.m. with the Peg Leg 5K Walk/Run starting at 5 p.m. Medals, created by PCES students, are awarded at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Participants may register online at active.com or at the elementary school at 266 Old Meansville Road, Zebulon. For more information, email espto@pike.k12.ga.us. Registration will also start at 3:30 p.m. on race day. The last day to pre-register through the school and receive a t-shirt the day of the race is Friday, Feb. 26 at noon. All ages can participate. ’It is recommended that to run the 5K unassisted, runners be 11 years old and up,’ said organizer Ginna Bryrom. ‘Thank you to all the sponsors thus far, including TenCate, Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, State Farm, Love’s Truck Stop, Raquethause South, Life Springs and Freshway.’
