Pirates baseball in Final Four!

The Pirates baseball team advanced to the GHSA’s Final Four teams in the state AAA competition as they swept Franklin County in a home double header over the weekend.

“We had outstanding pitching performances from Ty Mobley in game one and Cooper Crow in game two,” said head coach Don Hanson. “Our defense was stellar in the infield and the outfield. We swung the bats with confidence and got the hits when we needed them most. We know that we have a formidable opponent coming to Pike as we face Harlem. They are 31-1 and have been playing very well.”

The defending state championship Pirates will host Harlem High School Bulldogs – the top ranked team in AAA currently – this Saturday in a double header with game one starting at 1 p.m. The ‘if’ game will be Monday at 4 p.m.

In the 3-1 first game victory over Franklin County, freshman Ty Mobley pitched, only surrendering two hits and allowing one walk with four strikeouts.

Junior Cooper Crow pitched the second game with a 64-pitch complete game shut out, allowing three hits, no walks and getting one strikeout in the 3-0 victory.
