Pirates baseball team gets state championship rings

The 2022 Georgia High School Association State Championship Pirates baseball team was presented with their championship rings Friday, Sept. 2 in front of stands full of fans.

“We had a great time at a tailgate party at the baseball field prior to the game. The ceremony was the closing of an awesome accomplishment. The rings turned out incredible! The boys were awestruck with the rings and excited to wear them,” said head coach Don Hanson.

The Pirates finished their regular season as region champions with an overall record of 26-2 and 14-0 record in Region 2-AAA. They secured the team’s fifth consecutive Region 2-AAA Championship and then battled through the playoffs, sweeping through the Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four and to the championship game at Cool Ray Field. They were 36-6 for the regular and post season combined.

The Pirates defeated the Redan Raiders in a thrilling 5-4 victory in the final game of the series on May 24.

“Our strength was the love that these players have for each other. These guys would do anything for each other. I believe that their resiliency and never say die attitude is a major factor in our success,” said Pirates head coach Don Hanson.

“The outpouring of support from our fans and community has been huge. There is no doubt that they played an integral part in our success, especially being blessed with the opportunity to host every round at home with the exception of the championship series which was played at Coolray Field.”
