The Pike County High school boys soccer team won the April 19 home playoff game 4-2 against East Jackson in the second round of the 2022 GHSA State Boys Soccer Championships Class AAA.
The Pirates had an undefeated 7-0 region record and an 18-1-2 overall record and set a school record with 112 goals in the season.
Leading the team in goals is Matt Webb with 61 and Christian Fowler leads in assists with 36. In the second round win, Webb scored two goals and had two assists. Fowler had one goal and two assists and Sebastian Facundo had one goal.
The Pirates traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian of Norcross (17-3) on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m., after the Journal Reporter’s press deadline to play in the Elite 8.
“We knew we would be playing each other but GAC won the coin toss so we have to travel to play them. They are the most talented team in AAA. If we play the way we need to and make it out it doesn’t get much easier. Every team left in the playoffs is there for a reason. They are all skilled and it will be a challenge in every game going forward,” said coach Kevin Hobbs.
