Pirates head to championship series

The Pirates beat Hart County in a double header Tuesday night, winning 9-2 and 4-3. They will play in the state championship series next week. Go Pirates!! The Pirates faced Fannin County on their home turf in Blue Ridge for a double header Wednesday, May 8 and earned a first game victory but fell in the second game to force a third game on the road. The Pirates beat Fannin County 6-1 in the first game of the series. The Pirates struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning and taking advantage of a Fannin County error. The Pirates scored one run in the third inning off of a Coleman Crow homerun and Marsh Burford hit a homer in the seventh inning to help the Pirates seal the win with two more runs in the 6-1 victory. Coleman Crow earned the win for the Pirates on the mound as he went seven innings, only allowing one run on three hits and striking out an incredible 16 batters. In the second game of the series, the Pirates fell 9-0 after Fannin County captured an early lead with five runs in the first inning. The Pirates allowed an unusual number of errors with three to contribute to the loss. The Pirates offense was unable to answer Fannin County and a third game was scheduled, causing the Pirates to arrive home late and then drive back to Fannin County in Blue Ridge the next day for the final game of the series. The Pirates were able to shut out Fannin County in the final game 2-0. Noah Windhorst took the mound for the Pirates and pitched a complete game to put them in the Final Four.
