Pirates help win tourney

Pike County high school baseball players Justin Guy, Chris Long and Blake Ed-wards’ team won the Fle-tcher Championship Nation-al Baseball Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla., July 28-Aug. 2. Teams from the U.S. and Puerto Rico took part in the tournament hosted by former Major League player Scott Fletcher. Guy, Long and Edwards played summer ball with the 16U Big Stix Gamers travel team of McDonough. The Gamers won three games and lost one in pool play. In bracket play, they lost their first game, putting them into the loser’s bracket. To earn their way into the championship game, the Gamers had to win three games in a row. They defeated two Florida teams and a team from Missouri. Guy pitched two complete games, winning both to help advance the Gamers. In the first game Guy only gave up two hits. Long played third base during the tournament and Edwards played shortstop and center field.
