Pirates, Lady Pirates fall in region playoffs

By Greg Parrott The Pike County Pirates basketball team fell to the Crawford County Eagles 52-48. The loss ended the Pirates season; Crawford will move on. In the second quarter the Pirates offense got into high gear and outscored Crawford 22-12. The score was knotted at 26-26 going into the half. The game stayed close throughout the second half but the Eagles prevailed at the end. Andre Holmes led the Pirates with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. The Lady Pirates had a good season but the Spencer Lady Owls ended it on a controversial rule was over-ruled by the GHSA in their region playoff opener. The Lady Pirates finally got the game started after 9 p.m., once the Lady Owls showed up. They led the game most of the evening. At one point the Lady Pirates led by 18 points late in the game. The Lady Owls edged closer toward the end and foiled the Lady Pirates hopes with a free throw after a foul to give them a 45-44 victory.
