Pirates players rewarded for hard work

By Greg Parrott The Pirates baseball team held its annual banquet Tuesday, June 8. After a stellar season, the Pirates came together for one last time to honor team members. The Pirates record for the 2010 season was 25-7. They made it to the Elite 8 after sweeping Fannin County and Bu-ford. Their season came to an end when Cook County took two of three from them. The Big Stick Award went to junior catcher Chris Long. Long was instrumental in many close games with his bat. The Pirates will have him back one more year. The Gold Glove Award went to senior Justin Guy. Guy was the Pirates’ first baseman and proved game after game why he was the recipient of this award. Guy will go to the next level of baseball as he plays for Georgia Perimeter College. The Most Improved Award went to senior Seth Floyd. Floyd played left field and got better with each game defensively and offensively with his bat. The Most Valuable Player Award was earned by junior Kody Adams. He played center field and was the ace on the mound for the Pirates. Adams proved himself game after game, which is why he took home MVP honors. He was the lead-off hitter for the Pirates and was the teams lead hitter.
