Pirates prevail in scrimmage

By: Greg Parrott Excitement was in the air as football season was ushered in Friday. The stands were full, there was tailgating in the parking lot and the smell of burgers and popcorn filled the stadium air. It didn’t take long for the Pirates to get the starved football fans on their feet. In less than 12 seconds, the Pirates had put points on the scoreboard. Senior Andrekus Rogers took the kickoff return for 92 yards and the crowd went wild. Rogers also caught a touchdown pass on an eight yard screen pass play from quarterback Kody Adams. The play of the game came from kicker Andrew Chau, who attempted a field goal when the snap went high and wide. Chau somehow got the pigskin and lofted a 33 yard touchdown pass to Marcus Wilkens. Once again Pirate fans were elated. They could be heard all the way to the courthouse square.
