Pirates scrimmage starts season

By Greg Parrott With temperatures pushing 90 degrees, the Pike County Pirates played their annual spring scrimmage game Monday, May 24. The teams were divided into the Red team and White team. Over 90 players dressed out for the game. Leading the Red team at quarterback was senior Nate Ferrell. Scoring for the Red team was DeAndre Holmes and Tommy Smith. The White team was led by Jonathan Norton, a junior. Scoring for the White team was Andrew Fortson and Jay Collier with two touchdowns. The White team prevailed 21-14. The season will be here in 10 weeks when the Pirates travel to Spalding for a pre-season scrimmage game Aug. 14. The first game of the 2010 season will be Aug. 27 when Pike will host McIntosh. The Pirates enter a new region this year. New teams to the schedule include Greene County, Monticello, Morgan County, Putnam County, Southwest Macon and Northeast Macon. Crawford County and Lamar County will be in the new region as well as Pike.
