Pirates shut out Trojans 10-0

By Greg Parrott In a match up of the Highway 18 contest between the Pike County Pirates and the Lamar County Trojans, the Pirates put on a Diamond Showcase to set the tone of six innings of flawless baseball. The umpire had just called, ‘Play ball,’ when leadoff hitter Kody Adams hit a moon shot over the right field fence on the first pitch of the game to give the Pirates a lead they would hold throughout the game. The unique aspect of this game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Pirates catcher Chris Long ended the game with a homerun to give the Pirates a 10-0 run-rule victory over Lamar. A homerun started and ended the game. Three games were postponed due to inclement weather last week. A doubleheader with Jordan and a single game with Upson-Lee will be played at a later date. Three games will be on the schedule for the Pirates this week. They traveled to Crawford County March 16. Luella comes to town Thursday, March 18 and the Pirates will end their week with a road trip to Macon County on Friday, March 19.
