Local residents will gather July 28 at 9 a.m. for the annual Pike County School Prayer Rally hosted by Prayer Power of Georgia. This year, the rally will start inside the alternative school. After a brief prayer time, participants will proceed to all school buildings and facilities to pray at each one. A bus will be provided for those who wish to ride or participants can walk, run or drive.’This is an important event for the schools, the students, the facility and the staff,’ said Prayer Power founder Ben Maxedon. ’As in past years everyone is invited and we look forward to seeing you there so that we may put a hedge of protection around our schools.’There has been a prayer walk each year before school starts in Pike County for around 20 years. Prayer Power has been sponsoring it for five years.’Everybody is invited. It doesn’t matter whether they have kids in school or not, it is open to parents, grandparents, students, faculty, staff ‘“ everybody,’ Maxedon said. ‘This is a community event and it’s non-denominational. We need to do this at least once a year to put a protective hedge around our schools and students, and staff and faculty.’ The Prayer Rally will be structured a little differently this year, starting inside the alternative school and traveling via air conditioned bus around the schools’ campuses because of high temperatures during the event in years past.
