At the July 20 meeting of the Pike County Parks and Recreation Authority board, members discussed the possibility of holding a Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration in 2016 but made no official decision. The last Pride of Pike event was held in 2010. Pike County commissioners decided not to support the event after 2010 due to financial constraints.Parks and Recreation Authority director Kevin Teate presented board members with financial reports from the past two Pride of Pike events held in 2009 and 2010 and discussed the fireworks costs for the coming year. ’There will be an increase in the cost of fireworks and we obtained one quote,’ he said. ‘No decision has been made but there was a high level of interest in offering the Pride of Pike event in 2016. We’re hoping to work with the Pike County board of commissioners on this event. If we’re going to offer an event, now is when we need to start planning.’Board members discussed holding the event Saturday, July 2, 2016 to save money with the fireworks company who usually give discounts for days other than July 4. They also talked about how the last two events generated revenue and how previous events were organized. Recreation Authority Board members also:’¢ Tabled the 2014-15 budget amendment until all invoices and payments are recevied so the amendments can all be made at the same time.’¢ Approved the 2015-16 budget.’¢ Heard the monthly sports and programs report. ’¢ Heard an evaluation of the director’s service.
