Protest planned for Tuesday

Citizens met Saturday in the Pike County High School cafeteria to make final plans for a protest to be held on the courthouse square just before Tuesday’s board of commissioners meeting. The protest will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the north side of the square near the commissioners building. Organizer Margie Trammell said the goal of the protest is to cut spending in the county and let commissioners hear from common citizens. ”The goal is to get the commissioners to realize that they need to be careful about how they spend taxpayer dollars,” said Trammell. “They need to start paying attention to what the citizens in this county have to say.” Members of Citizens for Accoutability in Government, 109 East T.E.A party protesters and other have joined together to send a message to commissioners. ”In this county we have different factions of people who have come together for a common cause,” said Trammell. “This is not any certain group, it’s just a group of citizens who are concerned about spending. That’s all it is, common people with a common goal.”
