The grand re-opening of the Pike County Auditorium will be held May 17 at 6 p.m. with performances by local students. The auditorium was closed December 2011 due to foundational issues, a leaking roof and general disrepair. The passage of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax provided the funds to fully renovate the building. ’Renovation of the Pike County Auditorium has been completed. Everyone is invited to check out the transformation of our old auditorium into a wonderful, updated performing arts facility on May 17,’ said superintendent Michael Duncan. The grand opening event will feature Pike County High School drama students, chorus and band ensembles as well as Pike County Middle School’s choral ensemble. Admission is $2 for students, $3 for adults or $8 per family. The $400,000 E-SPLOST project repaired the foundation, replaced the roof and gutters, added a concession stand, installed a fire alarm system, updated the control room, replaced seating, added carpet and epoxy flooring, new paint, replaced old curtains, added new ceiling tiles and renovated dressing rooms and restrooms.
