Research farm for sale

Pike County is home to two experimental research farms that are part of the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Due to continued budget cuts since 2009, one of the local research farms is listed for sale. Beckham Farm is an 81-acre parcel of pasture and timberland at the corner of Highway 362 and Beeks Road between Hollonville and Williamson that was previously used by UGA faculty members for agricultural research. ’Beckham Farm was used to support agricultural research. The types of crops planted varied depending on what particular faculty research was being conducted there. That includes small grains crops, peanut research and a variety of different row crops,’ said Dr. Arkin. ‘Experiment station programs are still a major role for the college of agriculture.’
