Residents involved in fatal wreck

A Pike County woman and her 4-year-old daughter were in critical condition in area hospitals Monday after a head-on crash in DeKalb County that killed two brothers in a Chevrolet Corvette. Police said the Corvette was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Buford Highway about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when the driver, Raul Velazquez, lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes. The Corvette collided with an Acura driven by Denise Hudson, of Williamson. According to unofficial reports, the young girl is off sedation for swelling of the brain at Scottish Rite and is doing better, although still in critical condition. Her mother made it through emergency surgery yesterday and is scheduled for additional surgeries in the coming days. She had multiple fractures and a collapsed lung from the wreck.
