Scammers nabbed in Pike County

Pike County sheriff’s deputies responded to a citizen complaint and arrested four men who were charged with occupation tax certificate infractions. Maj. David Neal said the groups are referred to as Irish Travelers. They often scam elderly people by promising to do odd jobs and taking the payment without completing the work. Tomme Carroll, Jim Costello, Teddy Foor and Travis Meadows were arrested Jan. 28 and have since bonded out. Neal warns residents to let the sheriff’s office know if they suspect scammers are in Pike. “One thing we’ve learned about them is they commonly have out of state tags,” he said. “They’ll offer to paint barns or asphalt driveways. They do very poor work and/or don’t complete the work.”
