Board of education members voted June 14 to approve the fiscal year 2012 budget with a custodial contract that cuts 23 local employees, saving the school $224,920. Two board members, Fred Blackmon and Roger Green, opposed the decision but the budget was approved by a 4-2 vote. The school’s general fund budget calls for revenues of $22,011,621 with expenditures of $21,911,621 and $100,000 allocated to the reserve fund. Superintendent Michael Duncan said the school did not eliminate the 23 local jobs, they just changed who will pay those employees’ salaries and benefits.
