Schools’ new severe weather policy

Pike schools announced their severe weather events policy last week on Jan. 31. The message said if a severe weather event is predicted to occur during school dismissal or during afternoon bus delivery, the school will institute a two-hour early release.

“This means your student will be dropped off two hours earlier than usual. Every effort will be made to send out an all-call by 12:30 p.m. that early dismissal will take place. If this is not possible, we will delay school dismissal and shelter in place,” said superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan. “Now is a good time to make sure you have a plan. Please be reminded that students will ride their assigned bus and be delivered to their assigned stop. Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions. If your student is a daily car rider, you will have the opportunity to pick them up in the car rider line. The After-School Program will be cancelled during a weather-related early dismissal.”
