Kick off the Christmas season with Zebulon’s Old Fashioned Christmas set for Monday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at the city park south of city hall. A tree-lighting will be featured along with an appearance by Santa Claus, refreshments and carols. The tree will be a live one that can be planted at a visible location in the park, said city clerk Teresa Watson. Several choral groups will be singing and encouraging everyone to join them.Watson also told city council Nov. 11 that use of the park is increasing with the Relay for Life kickoff and a haunted trail happening recently.’Santa will arrive Dec. 1 in a police car with lights and siren going,’ she said.There also will be face decoration for children. All activities are free.The Pike County courthouse is looking for citizens who can help decorate the historic building through the Christmas wreath contest. All wreaths must be handmade and 36 inches in size. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place based on citizens’ votes. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 8.Wreaths can be real or artificial but must not have lights since there is no way for them to be plugged into an outlet.
