The Pike County wrestling team took one more step forward this past weekend at the sectional meet at Henry County. The team took 11 wrestlers to the meet, the most wrestlers Pike has ever placed in the area tournament.The team went to Henry County and placed in the top eight in its next step toward the state tournament this weekend. This year the Georgia High School Association added another step to the qualifying process by adding a sectionals. This makes the bracket smaller at the state level.Junior Casey Anthony and freshman Josh Simms both finished seventh and moved on to the next round. Seniors Tyler Morris placed fifth, Richie Norwood third and Landen Kompelien second. Justen Brown was the sectional champion at 171 pounds.Kompelien was undefeated after Christmas and went into the finals against nationally ranked Anthony Fretwell from Henry County. Kompelien had Fretwell on the ropes a few times.These six will advance to the state which starts Thursday at the Gwinnett Arena.
