Shelly’s Blessings ride to benefit Relay

Shelly Leidig had a team of doctors and nurses who helped her beat cancer five years ago. Every year since then, she has rallied a team for Relay for Life. This year the Shelly’s Blessings Motorcycle Ride will be held Saturday, May 18 after the opening ceremonies at Relay for Life.  ’The research that’s conducted and funded by the loving people who give their money and time to fundraising allowed me to have such a wonderful five years since my diagnosis,’ she said. ‘The Relay for Life Team Shelly’s Blessings isn’t named for me but rather as a way to say thank you to everyone who cared for me and supported me. Those people are truly my blessings, because I couldn’t have done it without them.’ The Shelly’s Blessings Motorcycle Ride will leave from the May 18 Relay for Life around 1 p.m., after the opening ceremonies are complete. Riders will travel scenic roads to Warm Springs and back to the Relay. Registration will end around 12 noon the day of the ride and any size donation will be accepted. Saddle bag prizes will be awarded and a silent auction will be held. For information call Susan Grant at 770-468-2126 or Leidig at 770-375-9931.  Shelly’s Blessings will also have a booth at the Relay for Life event, selling corn and other items. Leidig was 31 with two young children when she found out she had endometrial cancer. She underwent 25 external beam radiation treatments as well as three internal treatments.  ’The time during those treatments taught me so much about taking blessings for granted and what a wonderful family I have,’ she said. ‘The people who make up Shelly’s Blessings are the reasons I Relay ‘“ so one day, no one will have to hear those dreaded words, ‘˜I’m sorry, you have cancer.”
