Sheriff in spotlight at Jan. 11 historical society meeting

The Pike County Historical Society will hear the personal history of sheriff Jimmy Thomas as well as changes over the years at the sheriff’s office and interesting information about previous sheriffs in Pike County, covering topics from the Dixie Mafia to recent updates in law enforcement.

The special program featuring sheriff Thomas will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Zebulon Opportunity Center behind Zebulon City Hall.

“I will be discussing the history of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and I will also elaborate on some of the various changes we have seen over the past 24 years as well as some of the cases our office has handled,” said sheriff Thomas.

He has served as sheriff of Pike County for 24 years and has served the community in other ways, including serving on the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities board and providing many outreach programs for students and members of the community.

Sheriff Thomas has earned many honors for his law enforcement career, including being named Pike’s 2017 Golden Eagle by the Boy Scouts of America. He was honored by American Legion Post 197 as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 2022.
