Sheriff Jimmy Thomas is warning citizens about a phone scam that has surfaced in Pike County. Residents are reporting receiving phone calls from an individual stating that there is an active warrant for the resident that they have called. The caller then states that the matter can be taken care of by purchasing a pre-paid money-pak or green dot card and paying the caller so the person will not be arrested.”Legitimate law enforcement agencies do not call and request payments to be made by these methods,” said sheriff Thomas. “If you should receive this type of call please note the number calling and report it to the sheriff’s office for investigation. This type of scam is has been reported as taking place in numerous counties across Georgia.”
