Shooting suspect arrested

Zebulon Police Department officers responded to a drive by shooting May 21 in the Wrightsburg Subdivision. While on scene, officers received a look out for suspects who attempted to commit an armed robbery and fired three shots at a victim in Barnesville.

Investigators with the BPD and the ZPD followed up on numerous leads which led the BPD to identify Austin Daughtery of Molena as a suspect.

The BPD obtained warrants for Daughtery and he was apprehended by Pike County sheriff’s deputies at his residence after he attempted to flee on foot.

The ZPD continued to gather information and were able to link Daughtery to the drive by shooting in the city.

“We were able to obtain evidence and link Daughtery to the scene,” said ZPD chief Jonathan Hemphill.

Daughtery will be facing charges in both Pike and Lamar counties for the shootings.

“Fortunately all of the victims in both cases were unharmed and only minor property damage was done,” said chief Hemphill. “We would like to thank the rapid and diligent efforts of the Barnesville PD the Pike County Sheriffs office and the Zebulon PD patrol officers – all of whom did an amazing job to quickly apprehend Daughtery.”
